Border czar Tom Homan says ongoing death threats tied to his role in enforcing strict immigration policies under President Donald Trump have forced him and his wife to live separately. In a recent interview on Pod Force One with New York Post columnist Miranda Devine, Homan revealed the personal toll of his high-profile position.
“I don’t see my family very much, my wife’s living separately from me right now and mainly because I work so many hours but mostly because of the death threats against me,” Homan said. “She’s someplace else. I see her as much as I can but the death threats against me and my family are outrageous.”
A long career in immigration enforcement
This is not Homan’s first time serving in a presidential administration. He has worked under six U.S. presidents since 1984. During Trump’s first term, he served as a senior immigration adviser before retiring from government service.
He told Devine that he woke up “pissed off” every day for four years while President Joe Biden was in the White House and that he didn’t hesitate to come back and work for Trump again.
Trump’s call to return
Homan recalled the phone call he received from Trump when the president asked him to serve in his administration again.
“I was actually out to dinner with my wife and then my phone rang and I looked down and it says ‘POTUS.’ And my wife says, ‘Uh oh, he’s asking you to come back, isn’t he?’” Homan recalled. “So I walked outside, and the first thing he said to me was, ‘You’ve been b—-ing about it for four years. Well, come back and fix it.’ So how do you say no, right?”
Personal sacrifices, strong convictions
Homan is now playing a leading role in shaping and carrying out Trump’s campaign promise of mass deportations.
He stated that he accepted a significant pay cut to leave the private sector and return to public service. However, he emphasized that securing the nation’s borders is a critical priority, and he would make the same decision again, despite the personal sacrifices he and his family have made.
“I felt a duty to come back. I’ve done this my whole career,” he explained. “I know how to help. I know how to fix it. And I wake up every day like a kid in a candy store. I got the greatest president of my lifetime down the hall who gets it, he understands it. When it comes to border security, immigration enforcement, he gets it. And we’re going to fix it, he’s the guy to fix it.”
Homan also defended ICE actions in Los Angeles, which drew widespread protests earlier this month, leading Trump to deploy National Guard troops and Marines to protect federal property. Since becoming border czar, U.S. southern border crossings have dropped significantly, hitting record lows, according to new CBP data.
