CHIEF CHIKOMENI URGES PEACEFUL VOTING AHEAD OF AUGUST 13TH ELECTIONS

Chief Chikomeni of Lumezi District in Eastern Province has called on residents to turn out peacefully and vote on the 13th of August 2026, saying elections are a chance for communities to choose leaders who will deliver development.

Speaking during a traditional council meeting at his palace, the Chief said the 13th of August is not a day for division but a day for unity. He urged registered voters in Lumezi to collect their voter cards, verify their details, and go to the polling stations early. Chief Chikomeni emphasized that every vote counts and that citizens must elect leaders based on their track record of service, not on handouts, ethnicity, or political affiliation.

The traditional leader also appealed to political parties and their supporters to conduct campaigns peacefully and to respect each other. He warned youths against being used to cause violence, and asked parents and church leaders to preach peace in homes and communities. Chief Chikomeni further called on the Electoral Commission of Zambia to ensure the process is transparent and accessible, especially for people in rural areas who travel long distances to vote.

On development, Chief Chikomeni said whoever emerges after the 13th must prioritize roads, water, health facilities, and markets in Lumezi. He pledged that the traditional leadership will work with the elected government to ensure projects reach the people. He ended by encouraging residents to protect the peace that Zambia is known for before, during, and after polling day.
