The Energy Regulation Board has approved 23 licences, 20 construction permits and several licence inclusions representing approximately K18.4 billion in proposed investment across Zambia’s electricity, renewable energy and downstream petroleum subsectors. The approvals, granted during a Licensing Committee meeting on 10th August 2026, cover activities including renewable energy equipment, petroleum transportation, distribution, import and export, lubricant operations, and the licensing of 116 petroleum transportation fuel tankers aimed at strengthening the national fuel distribution chain.
The ERB also issued 20 construction permits comprising 11 utility-scale solar power projects and 9 petroleum retail service stations, and authorized the commissioning of 5 retail service stations and 2 solar projects to bring more compliant energy infrastructure online. The Board stated the approvals reflect continued private-sector participation and are expected to support infrastructure development, renewable energy expansion, petroleum supply security and improved access to energy services. All licences and permits were processed in line with the Energy Regulation Act and applicable regulatory requirements.
