EU Deploys 32 Short-Term Observers Across Zambia Ahead of 13 August Polls

The European Union Election Observation Mission has deployed 32 short-term observers across Zambia to monitor proceedings on election day for the general elections scheduled for 13 August. According to the Mission, the deployment marks a key phase in its observation work across the country.

Deputy Chief Observer Dr. Beata Martin-Rozumiłowicz indicated that the short-term observers would join long-term observers already stationed in Zambia. She stated that they would be present in all provinces and in both rural and urban areas to observe the opening of polling stations, the voting process, counting and the tabulation of results. The Mission noted that the work of the observers would contribute to its independent and impartial assessment of the electoral process.

On election day, the EU EOM is expected to comprise about 100 observers in total. The team will include a delegation from the European Parliament as well as diplomats from EU Member States and Norway.
