FODEP To Deploy Lean Volunteers As Election Monitors Due To Inadequate Funding

by Elias Chulu

FODEP Board President and Principal Spokesperson Mwenda Mumbuna says the Organisation will field a lean number of Election Monitors in the forthcoming general elections due to inadequate finances.

Speaking to journalists in Lusaka Thursday morning at the FODEP secretariat, FODEP Board President Mwenda Mumbuna said the organisation has not acquired any funding this year to allow it to carry out comprehensive monitoring of the election.

The organisation will only manage to allocate election monitors in all 116 districts across the country to observe and monitor the August 13th General elections.

He said the volunteers have offered to serve with no expectations of any allowances during and after the election.

Mr Mumbuna has also called on the Electoral Commission (ECZ), the Zambia Police Service, political parties and civil society organisations, and the general public to support peaceful, transparent elections.
