From his hospital bed, with bandages covering his arms and legs, former Namwala West independent parliamentary candidate Lawrence Chiinda is asking one question: Who wants me dead, and why?
In a Facebook post describing the attack, Mr Chiinda says he was assaulted at his farm on Saturday, 31 October 2026, at around 16:30 hours.
He alleges that 22 unidentified men arrived in two unmarked vehicles, seized him and forced him into the back seat of one of the vehicles before driving away.
But Mr Chiinda says he fought back, forcing his attackers to stop about 500 metres from the farm.
“When I fought back from the back seat, they suddenly stopped about 500 metres from the farm premise. They said he is too tough, let's just finish him from here,” he wrote.
He claims he was then dragged out of the vehicle and attacked by six of the men, who allegedly used machetes and axes, leaving him with 10 serious wounds to his arms and legs.
The attackers reportedly fled, leaving him bleeding and unable to move. Mr Chiinda says he remained at the scene for about three hours before farm workers found him and rushed him to hospital.
“Why and what for?” he asked in his post.
Mr Chiinda has not identified the alleged attackers or named anyone he believes may have been behind the assault. Instead, his account has raised questions about the motive for the attack and prompted calls for those responsible to be brought to justice.
His account has also drawn reactions on social media, with users calling for a thorough police investigation.
As he recovers in hospital, Mr Chiinda is left seeking answers over an attack he says nearly cost him his life.
