·July 17, 2026

Government has officially launched the National Tobacco Strategy Development Workshop for 2026–2030, reaffirming its commitment to transforming Zambia into a preferred supplier of high-quality tobacco while promoting sustainable and socially responsible growth across the industry.

Speaking during the official opening of the National Tobacco Strategy Development workshop in Chilanga District, Ministry of Agriculture Permanent Secretary John Mulongoti said the strategy marks an important step in shaping the future of one of Zambia's most valuable agricultural value chains.

Mr. Mulongoti commended the Tobacco Board of Zambia for spearheading the development of the strategy, describing the initiative as critical to strengthening the country's tobacco sector and enhancing its contribution to national development.

He said Government is committed to working closely with the Tobacco Board of Zambia and other stakeholders to ensure the strategy is not merely a policy document but one that is realistic, practical and fully embraced by the entire industry.

Meanwhile, Tobacco Board of Zambia Chief Operations Officer Tyndale Kasongole said the country's tobacco industry has recorded steady growth in recent years.
