LWSC HITS 30,000 METERS UNDER 64,000 INSTALLATION PROGRAMME

Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company (LWSC) has installed over 30,000 new water meters under its ongoing 64,000-Meter Installation Programme, LWSC Public Relations Manager Ruth Mulenga Mukuwa has announced the exercise, which started in 2025, is part of LWSC’s efforts to upgrade water infrastructure, improve billing accuracy and reduce water losses in Lusaka Province. Current installations are underway in Chilanga, while teams are also replacing faulty and non-functional meters in Kanyama, Chawama and John Howard townships.

Ms Mukuka says the new meters will ensure customers are billed fairly based on actual consumption and will help them manage water use and detect leaks early. The programme is also expected to cut billing disputes, boost customer confidence and improve service delivery through more reliable readings and better water management. For the company, it will strengthen accountability, reduce losses and provide accurate data for planning and managing water resources.

She adds that the company has appealed to residents to support the programme by fixing visible leaks, making meter points accessible to authorised teams and cooperating with installation personnel. Ms. Mukuwa reminded customers that all installed meters remain company property and should be protected from damage, theft, vandalism and tampering.

"Protecting the meter helps ensure accurate measurement of water consumption, fair billing and uninterrupted service, while avoiding unnecessary replacement costs and service disruptions," she stated.

The company further urged the public to grant access to authorised personnel for installation, inspection and maintenance in line with the Water Supply and Sanitation Act No. 28 of 1997, and thanked customers for their continued cooperation.
