Zambia international Patson Daka has joined German club Hamburg on a free transfer, with the Bundesliga side moving quickly to strengthen its attacking options ahead of the new season.

The transfer was completed after Daka underwent a medical at Volksparkstadion before linking up with the squad at the club’s training camp in Austria. The 27-year-old arrives with significant experience at both club and international level, having earned 57 caps and scored 22 goals for Zambia.

Hamburg officials say the signing was made specifically to reinforce the centre-forward position. In a club statement, newly appointed HSV Board Member for Sport Kathleen Krüger said Daka clearly matched the profile the club had been seeking for the role.

Sporting director Claus Costa also highlighted the striker’s suitability to Hamburg’s style of play, pointing to his energy, pace and ability to make aggressive runs behind opposition defences.

Daka first rose to prominence during his spell at Red Bull Salzburg, where he scored 27 league goals in the 2020/21 season and finished as the Austrian Bundesliga’s top scorer and Player of the Year.

Speaking after completing the move, the Zambian forward said he was eager to begin the next chapter of his career with the German club.

“I’m delighted to be here and can hardly wait to get going. I’m a passionate and energetic player whose job is to score goals,” Daka said.

The move gives Zambia another representative in one of Europe’s top leagues and adds proven international experience to Hamburg’s attack as the club prepares for the upcoming Bundesliga campaign.
