The Zambia Police Service has arrested and formally charged a 23-year-old Lusaka Social Media Influencer Gezile Smith Mwale with the offence of Production of Obscene Matters or Things, contrary to Section 177 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

According to police, Ms Mwale allegedly acted together with other individuals between 22 and 27 July 2026 in producing videos depicting people engaged in obscene acts.

Police further allege that she circulated the videos on various social media platforms.

The matter was reported to the Zambia Police Service Anti-Cyber Crime Unit on 27 July 2026, prompting investigations conducted jointly with the Zambia Cyber Security Agency.

Police say preliminary investigations led to Ms Mwale's identification and arrest.

They added that investigations are continuing, with other individuals believed to have been involved remaining at large.

Ms Mwale has since been formally charged and remains in police custody pending her appearance in court.

Meanwhile, the Zambia Police Service has reminded members of the public that the production, possession, publication and circulation of obscene material are offences under Zambian law.
