The Zambia Police Service is investigating the sudden death of 25-year-old Lisa Mutalu, who died at Victoria Hospital in Lusaka in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Chelstone Police Station received the report on 20 August at around 09:30 hours. According to preliminary information, the incident occurred between 03:30 and 04:30 hours that morning. Police said that on the evening of 19 August, Mutalu, who served as an ambassador for a named hotel, had been socialising with two female friends at the venue from around 20:30 hours, before the group moved to another drinking establishment in Lusaka around 22:30 hours.
Between 02:30 and 03:00 hours on 20 August, Mutalu's boyfriend, identified as Caleb Lisa, also known as Andrea, arrived and picked up the three women, dropping the two friends off in the Minestone/Casanova area before remaining with Mutalu, with whom he was reportedly staying in the Kalundu area. Police said that upon arrival at the residence, Mutalu began vomiting and subsequently became unconscious. Her boyfriend contacted a friend who helped take her to Victoria Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Officers processed both the primary and secondary scenes. Mutalu's body was initially deposited at FSG Mortuary before being transferred to the University Teaching Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination. Police said no physical injuries were observed on the body.
An inquiry file has been opened, and investigations into the circumstances of her death are ongoing. Deputy Police Public Relations Officer Chipo Kaitisha said the Zambia Police Service will provide further information as investigations progress.
