Police Issue Security and Traffic Advisory Ahead of Tuesday's Inauguration at National Heroes Stadium

The Zambia Police Service has confirmed that President-elect Hakainde Hichilema's inauguration ceremony will take place at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka on Tuesday, 1 September, and has issued a security and road traffic advisory ahead of the event.

In a statement issued 31 August, Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi said adequate security measures have been put in place in collaboration with other law enforcement and security agencies ahead of the ceremony. He said adequate numbers of police officers have been deployed at the venue and other strategic locations, with patrols intensified to ensure public safety and order, adding that the police presence "is not intended to intimidate members of the public, but to ensure maximum safety and security before, during and after the event."

Motorists were advised to expect temporary road closures on certain roads leading to the venue, as well as traffic diversions, to facilitate movement of the presidential motorcade, dignitaries and official processions. Police urged motorists to exercise patience, cooperate with traffic officers, plan their journeys in advance and allow extra travel time.

Members of the public were further advised to remain vigilant, safeguard their valuables, and promptly report any suspicious behaviour to the nearest police officer or security personnel. Parents and guardians were urged to keep a close watch over their children throughout the event. Police assured the public that law and order will be maintained throughout the ceremony.
