"Release Our Brothers" - Njobvu Appeals to Hichilema

Democratic Union President Ackim Antony Njobvu has appealed to President Hakainde Hichilema to release the opposition detainees at Mukobeko Maximum Prison and pursue reconciliation in the country.

Njobvu made the appeal after visiting Brian Mundubile, Makebi Zulu and 16 others at the prison in Kabwe.

In a statement following the visit, Njobvu said the detainees were in high spirits and had told him they had never gone on hunger strike, contrary to reports circulating about their condition.

He said he shared the Word of God with them and delivered a message of support from citizens.

According to Njobvu, the detainees' main concern was the need for unity and peace in Zambia.

He said Mundubile told him: “I am here for the sake of Zambia.”

Njobvu then addressed President Hichilema directly, asking what his administration would do to help unite the country.

“I urge you, Mr President, to listen and follow the voice of unity and reconciliation,” he said.

Njobvu quoted Proverbs 10:12, saying: “Hatred stirs up conflicts, but love covers all wrongs.”

“Choose love, Mr President. Release our brothers,” he said, calling for reconciliation and wider participation in Zambia's development agenda.

The appeal comes as the detainees continue to face treason-related proceedings, with their continued detention also being challenged in court.

Njobvu said reconciliation was necessary for Zambia to move forward as a united country.

“May God lead us into reconciliation. May God bless Zambia,” he said.
