Zambia and the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) are looking to strengthen their conservation partnership to attract tourism investment and improve the livelihoods of communities living alongside wildlife.
During a meeting in Lusaka, Tourism Permanent Secretary Evans Muhanga highlighted IFAW’s support for conservation infrastructure, anti-poaching operations and efforts to reduce human-wildlife conflict, including the construction of 51 staff houses across five wildlife management sectors.
The partnership comes as Zambia targets five million international tourist arrivals annually by 2031. Muhanga said communities must benefit directly from wildlife resources through jobs and improved livelihoods.
IFAW President and CEO Azzedine Downes reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to conservation investment and said it planned to establish a country office in Zambia.
