A delegation of Zambian civil society organisations is expected to travel to China on November 4, 2026, for a learning exchange aimed at strengthening cooperation and sharing experiences in governance and sustainable development.
The visit is being organised by the Consortium of Civil Society Organisations for Good Governance and Constitutionalism, following an invitation from the Chinese Embassy in Lusaka.
The delegation comprises representatives of nine civil society organisations, including the Non-Governmental Gender Organisations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC), the Centre for Protection of Human Rights and Advancement of Democracy (CePHRAD), Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR), Resilient Youth for Change (YOCA), the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ), the Zambia Council for Social Development (ZCSD) and Governance and Development Advocates Zambia (GODAZA).
The team will be led by Consortium Chairperson and Zambian Civil Liberties Union Executive Director Isaac Mwanza, deputised by Consortium Secretary and SACCORD Executive Director Arthur Muyunda.
The programme will take the delegation to Beijing, China’s capital, as well as Qingdao and Yantai in Shandong Province. It is expected to bring together Zambian and Chinese civil society representatives, businesses and local communities to exchange knowledge, examine institutional practices and identify opportunities for cooperation.
Mr Mwanza has welcomed the initiative, thanking stakeholders in both countries for making the visit possible. He says the exchange provides an opportunity for mutual learning, dialogue and stronger institutional partnerships.
He also said the timing was important as Zambia pursues its Grow Zambia Agenda, which places emphasis on strategic partnerships, innovation and practical approaches to sustainable development.
The Consortium hopes the engagements will produce practical lessons and lasting partnerships in areas including governance, social development, gender equality and environmental sustainability.
This is contained in a statement issued by Consortium Acting Spokesperson Clifftone M. Chifuwe.
