
Kalulushi Municipal Council has confirmed that a fire at Luato Market was brought under control on the night of 13th July 2026. According to a press statement issued by Council Public Relations Officer, Ms. Tamara Jacob, the Council received a distress call at 20:26 hours and the Council's Fire Brigade responded immediately, departing for the scene at 20:27 hours. Upon arrival, the Fire Brigade swiftly commenced firefighting operations and successfully contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading further.
Preliminary reports indicate that approximately 50 market stands were completely gutted by the fire. The suspected cause of the fire is a brazier that was left unattended. Further assessments are currently underway to establish the full extent of the damage.
The Council has commended the prompt response of the Fire Brigade and thanked traders and members of the public for their cooperation during the emergency. The Council has further appealed to residents and business owners to report any fire-related incidents immediately to the Fire Brigade, as prompt reporting helps save lives and minimize damage to property. Traders and members of the public have also been urged to observe fire safety measures at all times by ensuring that braziers and other sources of open fire are properly extinguished and never left unattended.
