Speaking to Muvi TV News, Mr. Mukosa said farmers are currently losing out by selling maize at low prices to briefcase buyers while waiting for moisture content to drop.

He stated that some traders are buying maize at K3.50 per kilogram, which translates to K175 per 50kg bag. Mr. Mukosa noted that this is far below the K340 per 50kg bag that government paid last season.

He expressed disappointment that farmers are making losses despite investing heavily in inputs and labour to ensure a good harvest, and described the situation as daylight robbery against farmers.

Mr. Mukosa noted that announcing the floor price early will help farmers stop selling at a loss and allow them to plan for the next farming season.

He has appealed to FRA to announce the price so farmers know exactly how much they will get for their maize.

Government is yet to announce the 2025/2026 maize floor price pending moisture content assessments.
