TI-Z Raises Concern Over Concealed Number Plates on Campaign Vehicles

Transparency International Zambia Executive Director Maurice K. Nyambe has raised concern over the increasing use of campaign vehicles with concealed or covered registration number plates, particularly those observed during UPND campaign activities in various parts of the country.

Mr. Nyambe says the practice raises concerns over transparency and accountability and has called on the Road Transport and Safety Agency and the Zambia Police Service to take immediate action.

Mr. Nyambe has also commended the Electoral Commission of Zambia for measures taken to promote transparency during the printing of ballot papers in Dubai, including allowing political parties, civil society organisations, observers and the media to witness the process.

However, he has urged the ECZ to maintain open communication and timely engagement with stakeholders as the country approaches the 2026 general elections.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nyambe has called on public officers to maintain political neutrality during the election period, expressing concern over the involvement of some civil servants in partisan political discourse.

He says all stakeholders must uphold transparency, accountability, the rule of law and peaceful political participation to protect public confidence in the electoral process.
