Tonse-Pamodzi Alliance senior member and Eastern Province Presidential Coordinator Nason Msoni has urged Zambian diplomats serving abroad to refrain from participating in partisan politics while holding public office.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Msoni said diplomats are civil servants and are expected to remain politically neutral while representing Zambia abroad.
"The laws governing those in diplomatic postings are very clear. They are civil servants and are not expected to take an active role in domestic politics," he said.
Mr. Msoni warned that diplomats who wish to campaign for political parties should first relinquish their positions, arguing that they "cannot have it both ways."
He also called on President Hakainde Hichilema to uphold the Constitution by ensuring that public officials serving in diplomatic missions comply with the law and avoid conduct that could undermine Zambia's diplomatic standing.
"Zambia is a country governed by laws, and everyone is expected to respect what the law says," Mr. Msoni said.
