Residents of Dongwe Constituency in Mufumbwe have rejected a list of shortlisted Electoral Commission of Zambia, ECZ, poll staff, alleging that the individuals are not registered voters in the area.
The community says the recruitment process should prioritize locals who understand the constituency and are accountable to the electorate.
According to residents, allowing non-registered persons to serve as poll staff undermines transparency and erodes public confidence ahead of elections.
They have since called on ECZ to review the shortlist and ensure that only eligible voters from Dongwe are engaged to manage the polling process.
The constituents are urging the commission to engage local leadership and community structures in the verification of poll staff to avoid disputes and maintain credibility of the electoral process in the constituency.
