FRA Sets 2026 Maize Price at K347 Per 50kg Bag

·July 24, 2026

LUSAKA – The Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has announced the 2026 crop purchase prices, setting the buying price for white maize at K347 per 50-kilogram bag, while paddy rice will be purchased at K300 per 50-kilogram bag.

Speaking during a media briefing, FRA Board Chairperson Suresh Desai said the Agency will open all its crop buying depots across the country on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, marking the start of this year's crop marketing exercise.

Mr. Desai said the FRA is targeting to purchase not less than 500,000 metric tonnes of maize to replenish the country's strategic food reserves.

He noted that maize moisture levels have improved in many parts of the country, with farmers now producing grain that meets the standards required for safe storage.

Mr. Desai urged farmers to ensure that their maize complies with the Agency's quality requirements before delivering it to FRA depots to facilitate a smooth and efficient buying process.

The annual crop marketing exercise plays a key role in Zambia's food security programme, with the FRA purchasing maize and other designated crops for the country's strategic grain reserves while providing a ready market for farmers.
