The Ministry of Tourism has welcomed the renewal of the long-term conservation partnership between the Government of Zambia, the Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) and African Parks for the collaborative management of Liuwa Plain National Park.

The renewed agreement also extends to part of the Upper West Zambezi Game Management Area, reinforcing efforts to protect one of Zambia’s most ecologically significant landscapes and critical wildlife migration routes.
Speaking on behalf of the Ministry, Permanent Secretary Evans Muhanga said the renewed agreement reflects Zambia’s continued commitment to sustainable conservation, national development and community wellbeing. Meanwhile, His Majesty the Litunga Lubosi Imwiko II reaffirmed the Barotse Royal Establishment’s commitment to protecting Liuwa Plain, describing the park as an important part of the Lozi people’s history, culture and identity.
The partnership, which has been in place for nearly 25 years, has contributed to the restoration of wildlife populations, strengthened conservation efforts and improved livelihoods through employment, education and community enterprise development. The Ministry of Tourism has commended the Barotse Royal Establishment, African Parks, local communities and conservation partners for their continued dedication to preserving Liuwa Plain National Park and promoting Zambia as a leading sustainable tourism destination.
