Lack of Government Experience Leads to Broken Campaign Promises - Mushimba

Organised People's Party (OPP) president Brian Mushimba says many election promises go unfulfilled because some politicians enter government without fully understanding how public policy is implemented.

Speaking on MUVI TV's Listen to the Voter programme, Mr Mushimba said political parties often produce ambitious manifestos without considering what can realistically be achieved during a five-year term of office.

He argued that this has contributed to a pattern of successive governments making major campaign commitments on employment, housing, infrastructure, education and healthcare, only for many of those promises to remain unfulfilled.

According to Mr Mushimba, the gap between campaign promises and actual delivery is often the result of inadequate planning and limited practical knowledge of how government operates.

Drawing on his experience as former Minister of Higher Education, Mr Mushimba said his understanding of government systems would enable him to implement his party's commitments within five years if elected.

He urged Zambians to support leaders with governance experience and practical plans, saying this would help close the gap between campaign promises and service delivery.
