Twenty-one passengers aboard a Zambia Railways Limited passenger train travelling from Kitwe to Livingstone have been taken to a health facility for assessment following suspected cholera cases.
The train, Passenger Train No. 601, was stopped in the Chilanga area as a precautionary measure to allow health personnel to screen all passengers.
In a statement issued on Monday, Zambia Railways Manager Public Relations Sombe Longwani-Ng’onga said the company was working closely with relevant health authorities to manage the situation.
She said appropriate precautionary measures were being implemented in line with public health guidance.
Ms Longwani-Ng’onga added that Zambia Railways was intensifying surveillance efforts in collaboration with health authorities to strengthen the early detection of suspected cholera cases on its passenger trains.
She urged members of the public to remain calm and rely on official communications from Zambia Railways and health authorities for verified information.
The company said further updates would be provided as more details became available.
The suspected cases have not been confirmed as cholera in the information released by Zambia Railways.
