Two Siblings Detained In Connection With Alleged Murder of Cousin

Police in Lusaka have detained two siblings, an 18-year-old male and his 15-year-old sister, in connection with the alleged murder of their 22-year-old cousin, Susan Zulu.

According to Zambia Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi, the matter follows a report of Conversion Not Amounting to Theft of a silver Toyota Axio made at Kabwata Police Station on September 17, 2026.

Preliminary investigations indicate that on September 17, the 18-year-old allegedly took the vehicle without his parents' consent, accompanied by his sister and their cousin Susan. Later that day, the vehicle was involved in a hit-and-run accident along Zimba Road in Madras area, leaving an eight-year-old pedestrian critically injured and admitted to UTH.

On September 18, the vehicle was involved in another accident along Lumumba Road and was subsequently abandoned by the three occupants. On September 21, the two siblings returned home while Susan remained unaccounted for, prompting their parents to take them to Kabwata Police Station.

During interviews on September 22, the two provided information that led officers to Mungule area in Chibombo District. Upon arrival, police were informed that members of the public had discovered the body of an unidentified female around 10:00 hours on September 21, which was collected by Ngwerere Police and deposited at UTH Mortuary.

Relatives identified the body as Susan Zulu on September 22. The body had visible injuries which preliminary investigations suggest may have resulted from an alleged physical confrontation between the deceased and the two siblings. The body remains at UTH awaiting post-mortem as investigations continue.
