Hichilema Condemns Political Violence, Warns Lawbreakers Will Face Consequences

President Hakainde Hichilema has strongly condemned reports of political violence in parts of the country, warning that acts of violence, intimidation and lawlessness will not be tolerated.

In a statement, President Hichilema said he was deeply concerned by reports of political violence emerging from certain areas during the election campaign.

The President stressed that every political party and candidate has a lawful right to campaign within the period allocated by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ).

He warned that anyone who attempts to disrupt or prevent lawful political campaigns is breaking the law and must face the full consequences.

President Hichilema has since called on all political parties, candidates and their supporters to conduct their campaigns peacefully, responsibly and in accordance with the law.

He also urged political players to safeguard Zambia’s peace, unity and democratic values as the country heads towards the 13 August General Election.
