Kalaba Pledges Economic Revival for Kapiri Mposhi with Focus on Industry, Agriculture and Youth

Citizens First Party President Harry Kalaba has pledged to make Kapiri Mposhi a key driver of Zambia’s economic growth under a new CF administration.

Addressing residents during a roadshow in the district, Mr. Kalaba said that once sworn in as Republican President in August, his government will implement targeted measures to restore the town’s historical importance in trade, industry and agriculture.

Central to the pledge is a commitment to industrialisation. Mr. Kalaba noted that the absence of adequate industrial infrastructure has limited job opportunities and economic progress in Kapiri Mposhi for years.

To address this, a CF government would prioritize the establishment of new industries designed to create employment and stimulate broader economic activity across the district. The plan also includes the rehabilitation of township roads, which are currently in poor condition and hinder movement of goods and people.

The economic agenda places strong emphasis on agriculture as a foundation for livelihoods, alongside deliberate programs for women and youth. Women will be supported through initiatives aimed at expanding participation in business and leadership.

For young people, the focus will be on skills development, entrepreneurship training, and improving access to finance to help them start and grow businesses. Marketers were also highlighted as critical to the local economy, with promises of better market facilities and trading conditions that support small-scale enterprise.

Mr. Kalaba described Kapiri Mposhi’s location as strategically vital to national development, arguing that unlocking its potential will have ripple effects beyond the district.

The proposals were outlined in a statement issued by Citizens First Presidential Media Coordinator Bangwe Naviley Chisenga. The party says the approach is part of a wider vision to build an inclusive economy that creates opportunities across different sectors and communities.
