Mundubile Challenges Hichilema to Condemn Alleged Attack on Musicians in Solwezi

NRPUP presidential candidate Brian Mundubile has issued a direct challenge to President Hakainde Hichilema over an alleged attack on four musicians in Solwezi, which he says was carried out by UPND cadres, and has called for the immediate arrest of those responsible.

In a statement released on Thursday, Mundubile said musicians Rich Bizzy, Shenky, Chester and Kadafi, all four had previously performed a campaign song associated with Mundubile and running mate Makebi Zulu, were "brutally attacked" in Solwezi. He said the faces of the alleged attackers were known, citing what he described as footage of the incident, and urged police to act on it without delay.

"If you are not the one sending UPND cadres to attack our members, I challenge you to address the nation and condemn this violence," Mundubile said, addressing Hichilema directly.

Police in Solwezi had not issued a statement on the matter at the time of publication. This report will be updated as more information becomes available.

The allegation is the latest in a string of violence claims Mundubile has made against UPND cadres over the course of the campaign, including earlier incidents involving his campaign convoy on the Copperbelt and at a Lusaka hotel where his team was staying. The UPND has previously said any arrests made in connection with campaign violence should be based on proven, not alleged, involvement, and has not directly responded to Mundubile's Solwezi claim as of this report.

In his statement, Mundubile also appealed to the international community, including election observers, to press for peace before, during and after the 13 August general election, and urged Zambians to reject what he called "violence and thuggery" by voting for the NRPUP.

Zambians go to the polls on 13 August 2026.
