UPND Petauke Central Youth Secretary Dies After Collapsing

The United Party for National Development (UPND) Youth Secretary for Petauke Central Constituency, Lackson Banda, aged 52, has died after collapsing along Petauke Boma Road on Monday evening. Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba says Mr. Banda collapsed near the Zamtel offices at around 19:35 hours while walking from the UPND campaign centre in Mayard Compound with two party members.

Mr. Mweemba says Mr. Banda complained of weakness and numbness in both legs before sitting down by the roadside. His companions rushed him to Petauke District Hospital on a borrowed bicycle, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The matter was later reported at Petauke Police Station at around 19:55 hours.

The Eastern Province Police Chief says the body was physically inspected and found to be intact before being deposited in the Petauke District Hospital mortuary. A postmortem examination is expected to be conducted to establish the cause of death.
