Maguya Community Laments Costly, Late Farming Inputs

Residents of Maguya Chiefdom in Luangeni Constituency have appealed for quick intervention to make farming inputs affordable and ensure timely delivery. Community members said high prices and persistent delays in the supply of seed and fertilizer have continued to affect farming activities in the area.

Traditional leadership in the chiefdom also raised concern over late payments by the Food Reserve Agency, which they said has forced farmers to sell their maize to briefcase buyers at low prices. They called for measures to address the challenges ahead of the August 13, 2026 general elections.

Democratic Union President Ackim Njobvu, who met the community, assured residents that delays in input delivery and farmer payments would be addressed under his leadership. He also reiterated plans for rural development through a proposed Chiefdom Transformation Fund, while residents further requested nearby crop depots, health facilities and other basic services.
